This Positive Self-Advocacy Toolkit below was developed through a partnership between Guide Dogs and the Vision Impairment team from SenCom (Sensory and Communication Support Service) in South East Wales. The toolkit comprises a comprehensive programme of work, resources, recording sheets, pre- and post-intervention feedback, and self-help guides.
The programme of work focuses on fostering positive self-advocacy, problem-solving, and solution-based skills. It is designed to address the challenges that children and young people with vision impairment may encounter, particularly during the transition to high school. The programme prepares them for the social, emotional, and physical pressures associated with joining a new school.
The resources and programme of work are intended for use by professionals in schools, parents, Qualified Teachers of Vision Impaired (QTVI), and Habilitation Specialists who work with children and young people with vision impairment.
